Over the last couple of days there have been multiple news sources (1,2,3,4) talking about the need for the Alabama Ethics Commission to possess subpoena power. Many thoughts coming from the right and left are that giving a non elected committee the power to gather documents is not a smart idea.
Surprisingly 35 boards, agencies and commissions in state government have subpoena power but not the Ethics Commission. Below is a sample of the 35 that I thought were humerous interesting:
- Hearing Instrument Dealers & Fitters Board
- State Physical Therapy Board
- Real Estate Appraisers Board
- Crime Victims Compensation Commission
- State Dental Board
- State Oil & Gas Board
- State Physicians & Osteopaths Board
If the Hearing Instrument Dealers & Fitters Board can have Subpoena Power, why not the commission formed to keep the integrity in our Public Officials?
